Arch221 Final Draft : Transition in public and private spaces

Defining changes is one of the most common situation for daily life. In architecture, transitions help to define these changes. When some place become privacy or become public quality, seperation needed and throughout history, meaning of transition is change. For instance when we look at Çatalhöyük, we can not see any special transition area in there. There were no certain hall or lobby. Stairs are key element for them. Their viewpoint about transition is limited for stairs because they did not have any hierarchic order or they do not need to define their transitions in spatial manner. But when privacy and class differences gain importance we can say that transition also gain importance. In sumerian middle house, there is a hall which is related with whole of the rooms and it both divide and increase the quality of rooms. Not only inside of houses but also outside of houses has its transition area. Generally its called as court and again it is use for increasing privacy level. In

Reading X: The Urbanisation of Europe, 1100-1300

12th Century has some problems about religion in Europe. There were some revolt against bishops, archbishops and these kind of community especially in Rome. France did not want to encounter any revolt and they order these religious people and they limited their decisions. Actually, these revolt situation has some positive qualities like what happen in southern France. In Montraiol, people accepted Alphonses'  offer and they started to settle near Toulouse. Even they have some connection with Toulouse, they are more independent when compared with before. Principal differences firstly occured in western urbanism. Some of them decline Roman civilization system and for a result, new class type occured in feudal system. They are against nobility and church and they have strong connection with trade. This situation helps to improvement of architecture. There were new type of building occured like guild halls, torehouses, market building and etc. Also streets and public spacec shape aroun

Tension And Compression Models

In this assignment, we work on tension and compression but in some different way. Firstly we made some research about catenary models and try to understand how they work in structural manner. And our material is clip-paper for this assignment. Firstly, we focus on how can we create curves on tension model. This curves help us to create tension. when it finished there are different sized curves occur which we want. And both of them define a space in itself. Here is tension model with its steps: Making compression model is much more difficult than what we are expected. Its durability is main problem for us in here. And unfortunately, our tension model is damaged and it fall over. So we create our tension model again because our compression model shape around our tension model. To supply compression firstly we try solder but solder is not very effective in durability manner.

Anatolian Civilizations museum Impressions

Having connection with neolithic and paleolithic people situation is really interesting for me. When I trip to Anatolian Civilizations Museum, I can easily say that even their materials seems like old age, we can still use them in modern way.  For instance there are lots of examples of pitcher and even todays world people use pitcher as a decoration material, like 30-40 years ago, they also use it in real manner. Also their workmanship are seems good. It shows us they also give importance to design. Museum does not only include paleolithic and neolithic age. We can also see trace about more developed civilizations. But our topic include paleolithic and neolithic age. So lets try to observe their world. In paleolithic age, little rocks are key element for them. They use stone in lots of different manner. They try to shape the stone and time after time usage of material developed. Neolithic age is much more different than Paleolithic age. When we look at Çatalhöyük, even there is no

Prejury

Here comes the prejury again. I think I can use this sentence as a headline for this post. Whatever. Lets start with what did I do before prejury: SKETCHES Section of Penisula, 1/200 And 1/500 Plan Firstly we should create our paths for 1,5 and 15 people. While they use this path their aim will be different and in the light of this situation, I divide whole of the routes. When people plan to come Eymir, their first need is interaction with nature. And when I look at Penisula which we work on Eymir, North side of it is suitable for that: high pinewood, natural happened paths, eliminated sunrise , wine, girls... (lol) This route present variation in itself and this variation helps fifteen people to walk in here. In prejury, we should explain one of the our routes and I try to explain my path for fifteen people. Actually 1/500 plan should include whole of routes and I should show my main principles much like diagram in this one. Im not sure whether they are enough to explain somet

Reading IX:THE BIRTH OF NATIONS: EUROPE AFTER CHARLES

In eleventh century there are three different soul of political and cultural power. The Abbasid caliphate, Baghdad and whole of the Emperor of Islam except Spain.  Rivalcaliph who is the member of Umayyads. He manage the cosmopolitn civilization and capital city is Cordoba in here. There is great mosque and it reproduce lots of time for expansion. And its still valid todays. We can see it trace of Byzantine in west. For instance, portable treasures, sketchbooks and directly traveling craftsmen. Master of Byzantine made lots of building out of their border. They also made something for Cordoba and they bring up local talents in there. EUROPE FROM CHARLES TO OTTO Carolingan Europe is the third soul in there. Area which under the charles (modern France,Germany and Italy) become a one thing with rulling class. This become happen in behaviour and organisation way. And architecture affect it directly. This ambitios labor is kind of turn into Rome. Architectural product is mixture of tr

Assignment 04.3 Defining Enclosure Walls

Objective: analyse & produce a library of architectural elements that define enclosure Keywords: connecting, separating, dividing, screening, bordering, defining, enclosing, containing, layering, transparency, permeability, light&shadow Like other 04 assignments, I analyse spatial, physical and structural quality. But this time I try to understand how materials define an enclosure areas. There are different projects and each of them define walls in different manner. And I choose 10 of them and made analyse about their relations and etc. After analysing process, I made sketch about it on my Accordion Sketchbook and after that choose 3 of them to make 1/10 detail model. Assignment 04.2 Vertical Circulation

Objective: Analysing the spatial qualities of vertical circulation Keywords: Spatial experience, ramp, slope, hill, rise, ascent, slant, inclination, stairs, steps, stages, vertical, oblique             In this assignment, I analyse choosed vertical circulation designs. While I analysing these vertical circulations i focus on their physical, structural and material qualities and their effects on whole of the designs.             After that I pick three of them and made detail models which have 1/10 scales. Also there is limitation about usage of material. I can not use more than 2 different materials for each of the models. Vertical Circulation Projects Next Architects, Folly, Netherlands, 2013 Drmm, Endless Stairs, London, 2013. Morphosis Architects, The Cooper Union, New York, 2006. Temple of Rome is like perfect composition and its the top of the world. THE SOURCES  Rome has its own italic character and this character like irregular city form. We can show this irregular type in early Italy towns. Greek and etruscan colonies has their own geometrical principles and this principles also transferred Rome. One of them is appear when Rome built new towns : north-south, east-west is locate for meeting points. Architecture is kind of civilizing and certain meaning of it related with making Romes visibility. Civil buildings has affected by armies. architecture affect by army in these times.
